International Museum Day in Abengourou (Côte d’Ivoire)

Organized by the Direction of Cultural Heritage and ICOM Côte d’Ivoire, in cooperation with the Departmental Committee for the Organisation of public events of Abengourou, the International Museum Day 2012 was celebrated inside the Royal Palace which welcomed more than 1.500 people for this occasion.

Many personalities attended the events, notably the King of Indénié, Nanan Kouassi BOA III, the deputy of Abengourou, the Director of Cultural Heritage, the Chair of ICOM Côte d’Ivoire and the Minister of Animal and Fisher Resources.

These personalities spoke about on the importance of reflection on the changes that museums are facing, on the necessity of meeting audiences and professionals and on the role of museum institutions within society. The day was also marked by a contest organised between two high schools of the Abengourou region, followed by a guided tour of the Musée des Attributs Royaux.

The strong mobilization, highlighted by the great number of participants, permitted to fulfil the objectives of the event: strengthening the fundamental role of museums within the society of the Côte d’Ivoire and the raising awareness among public on the museums and their challenges.
