Mus’art Gallery is planning on IMD 2012 to cause our local FM radio ‘Helenkriss FM Radio Kumbo’ to broadcast several times on the 18th May 2012 information on the International Museum Day and on this year’s theme. This is going to be a unique opportunity to reach several hundred thousand radio listeners in Bui, Donga Mantung, Ngoketunjia and Noun Divisions of Cameroon. Mus’Art Gallery also hopes to use this occasion to raise awareness on the work of the museum which has been in existence since 1996, yet the local population is to take advantage of our work.

1. Open day: Galleries will be opened to the public free of charge from 9:00am – 4:00pm.
2. Essay Competition for Senior Secondary School students on the theme.
The open day will see the galleries open to the public free of charge from 9:00am – 4:00pm. Selected objects from the stores will also be on display in the courtyard. Every Unit will have a small display of what the unit does. Also, there will be an essay competition among selected Senior Secondary Schools students in Lagos and its environ on the theme of the event.
Friday 18th May:
1. Lecture will be delivered on the theme
2. Traditional fashion and costume display by School pupils
3. Cultural
4. Drama
A lecture on the theme will be delivered by renowned museum professional. there will also be a traditional fashion and costume display by ten selected Schools in Lagos; four primary and six secondary schools respectively. The museum staff will make a drama presentation on the theme of the event.

Livingstone Museum, Livingstone
Public Discussion, Exhibition, Essay Competition and Traditional Dancing
The Livingstone Museum, Livingstone, Zambia, will join the museum world in celebrating International Museum Day 2012.
The Museum has chosen to interpret the ICOM theme from an environmental angle, considering the changes the world is going through environmentally as a result of human impact. Having identified waste management as one of the most challenging environmental problems currently facing Livingstone City, the Museum will be mounting an exhibition Waste management in Livingstone – what are we doing about it? This exhibition will be prepared in collaboration with local government bodies, civil society organisations and private companies, who have been invited to mount panels showing what they are doing to help manage waste in Livingstone. Nearly 20 companies and organisations have been invited to participate.
A school essay competition has also been organised, where Livingstone school children from 30 local schools have been asked to write essays on waste management in their home, school or town. The best entries will be displayed in the exhibition.
In addition, the Museum is arranging a public discussion with a panel of experts on waste management, incorporating government and the private sector. This will be held on the evening of 15th May and will be open to all members of the public.
The exhibition will be officially opened on 18th May during a public ceremony flagged off by a march past, speeches and entertainment by local drama and dance groups performed in the Museum grounds. Organisations and companies that are partnering with the museum through the exhibition or through financial or material support will be invited to put up stands in the museum grounds to market their products and activities. The Museum will offer free entry to everyone on this day. The exhibition will remain open until the end of July.
It is hoped that through these activities the Museum will be able bring relevant organisations together with the public to encourage interaction, education and co-operation, ultimately leading to improved management of waste in the city and a better understanding of the options available to individuals and companies for dealing with their waste.
